The 3070 is not obsolete
The GeForce RTX 3070 remains capable at 1080p and plenty of 1440p games. If your library feels smooth and your monitor is 60–75Hz, no purchase is required. Upgrading just to own a 50-series card is not itself a reason.
Same-suite comparison
At 1440p ultra, the June 2026 raster chart puts RTX 3070 at approximately 58.2 FPS, RX 9060 XT 16GB at 67.3, RTX 5070 at 96.4, RX 9070 at 104.0 and RX 9070 XT at 116.5. RX 9060 XT 16GB represents a modest step. The higher-tier trio gives a larger leap, at a higher price.
The 8GB limit
The RTX 3070’s 8GB memory can be a bottleneck in specific newer titles at high texture settings. That does not mean 8GB is always unusable. If VRAM is your actual problem, check a 12–16GB replacement and compare frame-time behavior in the games you play.
Which upgrade is worthwhile?
The RX 9070 is attractive for 1440p raster and 16GB. The RTX 5070 may suit DLSS, ray tracing, and Nvidia-specific software priorities. The RX 9070 XT adds more 4K ability. Compare street pricing carefully because GPU prices fluctuate wildly.
What else to check
A CPU bottleneck in esports at 1080p, insufficient PSU capacity, or a short case can erase the benefit of a shopping decision. Confirm each part before purchasing.
