OUR SHORT VERDICT

The RX 9060 XT 16GB offers more native raster performance and doubles the RTX 4060’s VRAM. That makes it more interesting than a lateral jump to another 8GB card, particularly at 1440p.

16GB can help, but is the raster improvement big enough?

Who should buy, and who should wait?

The RX 9060 XT 16GB offers more native raster performance and doubles the RTX 4060’s VRAM. That makes it more interesting than a lateral jump to another 8GB card, particularly at 1440p.

Where the extra VRAM might actually matter

Modern high-resolution texture packs, demanding worlds and certain heavily modded games can exceed an 8GB memory budget. Increasing capacity can reduce texture compromises in these situations. But VRAM is a capacity, not a shortcut to 60 extra frames in every title.

Do you depend on Nvidia software?

CUDA applications, DLSS quality preferences, and creator tools might matter more than memory if this PC also earns its keep. If you rely on an Nvidia-specific workflow, confirm a Radeon replacement is compatible before you sell the old card.

What budget would change the answer?

A discounted RX 9060 XT 16GB can be compelling; an overpriced listing can be poor value next to a faster RX 9070. Always compare complete checkout prices. Also verify a retailer’s advertised “9060 XT” is specifically the 16GB version, not the cheaper 8GB variant.

The honest reason to skip: If your 4060 is already fast enough at 1080p, this is still an optional purchase rather than a necessary replacement.

Frequently asked questions

Does a higher average FPS guarantee it in every game?

No. Different games weight shader performance, VRAM, ray tracing and upscaling very differently. These figures use the same June 2026 raster benchmark suite at Ultra settings. Look up your most-played games separately.

Can I install either card in my existing computer?

Often, but do not assume it. Board-partner dimensions, motherboard slot clearance, front radiator position, PCIe power cables and PSU health all matter. Use our GPU fit guide and the actual manufacturer's spec sheet.

Should I wait for prices to fall?

Waiting is a rational option when your current GPU handles your games and contemporary store prices are high. Set a personal price ceiling based on how much performance improvement you actually need.
